Tornado warnings issued in northwestern Ontario

A tornado warning has been called off for Dryden ? Vermilion Bay early Sunday evening, but a new warning has been issued for Seine River Village ? Mine Centre.

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for Seine River Village ? Mine Centre just before 6 p.m. ET, warning people in the area to ?be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.?

Environment Canada reported earlier that the storm was moving slowly to the southeast and was expected to ?remain largely in rural areas.? Dryden ? Vermilion Bay had been under a tornado warning since the mid-afternoon, before the warning was called off Sunday evening.

As of 6 p.m., the following communities were under a severe thunderstorm warning:

  • Atikokan ? Shebandowan ? Quetico Park
  • Ignace ? English River
  • Pickle Lake ? Cat Lake
  • Pikangikum ? Poplar Hill ? MacDowell
  • Seine River Village ? Mine Centre

A severe thunderstorm watch was also in effect for the following communities:

  • Cloud Bay ? Dorion
  • Ear Falls ? Perrault Falls ? Western Lac Seul
  • Fort Frances ? Emo ? Rainy River
  • Kakabeka Falls ? Whitefish Lake ? Arrow Lake
  • Kenora ? Grassy Narrows ? Whitedog
  • Red Lake ? Woodland Caribou Park
  • Savant Lake ? Sturgeon Lake
  • Sioux Lookout ? Eastern Lac Seul
  • Sioux Narrows ? Nestor Falls ? Morson
  • Thunder Bay
  • Upsala ? Raith
