Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade
Time:?Classes for grades K-2 meet once a week for a total of two and a half hours per week from 9:45 am ? 12:15 pm. The Pre-K Torah Tots class meets once per month. See the BESTT calendar for scheduled dates.
The overall objectives of the Primary Grades are to acquaint students with the basic elements of Hebrew language and reading, prayer, Bible, Jewish holidays, values and rituals. Many methods are used in the classroom to convey the basic elements, including storytelling, drama, music, arts and crafts and hands-on activities.?
Pre-Kindergarten ? Torah Tots
Students ages 3-5 and their parents will be introduced to our Talmud Torah program. They will begin to develop a basic understanding of holidays, customs, ceremonies, Bible stories, and key Hebrew vocabulary.?This class will be held once a month with the help of Morah Naomi, Rabbi Levine, Rabbi Abraham, Hazan Krausman and many other guests!?

Hebrew:?Students will be introduced to beginning letter sounds of words that correspond to their study of holidays, synagogue and the Jewish family. They will be able to recognize Hebrew letters, know their sounds and will be able to print them.
Prayers:?Students will have weekly opportunities to participate in a school wide assembly and classroom activities which emphasize the following prayers and blessings for our youngest students:
- Prayers:?Shema, Modeh Ani, Mah Tovu and the Havdalah Service
- Blessings:?Boray P?ree HaGafen, HaMotzee, SheHaKol, Mezonot, Shabbat blessings and two out of the Four Questions for Pesach
To promote the students? spiritual growth, teachers will help them explore their thoughts and feelings about God and the wonders of life.
Holidays/Social Studies:?Jewish holidays, home, synagogue and family are introduced including vocabulary, practices and meaning of major Jewish celebrations for the home, family or synagogue ritual.
Bible:?Students will become acquainted with some of the Bible stories, such as the Creation story, the Garden of Eden, and Cain and Abel.

First and Second Grades ? Kitah Aleph and Kitah Beit
The course work will consist of the following for the 2012-2013 school year:
Hebrew:?Student Text ??Journeys Through the Aleph-Bet Pre-Primer
Students will be introduced to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, a Jewish vocabulary, and non-initial consonants and vowels through engaging exercises for review and drill. They will also engage in tracing and printing exercises.
Prayers:?Students will have weekly opportunities to participate in a school wide service and classroom activities which emphasize the following prayers and blessings for our first and second grade students:
- Prayers:?Havdalah, Amidah, Sim Shalom and Shalom Rav (as well as those of previous years)
- Blessings:?All Shabbat and holiday related blessings are reviewed, Sheheheyanu, The Four Questions and other Haggadah blessings and prayers
To promote the students? spiritual growth, teachers will help them explore their feelings about God and the wonders of life through discussions, role play and art.
Holidays:?Student Text -?Jewish Holiday Treasure Trail
Jewish holidays will be explored as the central characters, Daniel and his Israeli cousin, Rivka, travel through time and space as they meet people and encounter places as old as the Bible and as new as modern Israel. They witness the miracle of Hanukkah at the ancient Temple and as they cross the Red Sea right before Passover. The text is accompanied by a website,?www.ElijahRocks.net?for games, activities and blessings.

Students will continue to familiarize themselves with the early stories of Genesis with emphasis on Noah, the Flood and the Tower of Babel.
