The Heart of Simplicity {Thrive @ Home} ? Rediscovering Domesticity

(click through to view this video)

A bloggy friend of mine asked me a little while ago if I would read and review an ebook for which she was a contributor. The Heart of Simplicity. I have been chipping away at it ? it?s really hard to read for more than a couple minutes at a time with these little ones! Can you see how much I long for simplicity? Honestly, I am overwhelmed.

But seriously, oh my goodness! What a book!

I?ll be honest ? I haven?t read the whole book.? There is far too much to chew on in each chapter to simply race through it.? Chock full of truth, encouragement, challenges, love, and tips. It?s not just a how-to book. It goes to the core. Challenges your heart behind the day to day issues and struggles. Most of all ? it?s not just about today. It?s about eternity.

I love how this book is laid out. There is a very clear table of contents (which is clickable!) that includes a ?How to use this book? segment.? I have enjoyed finding a topic where I am struggling and reading just that topic or just one chapter in that topic.

From Chapter 3? Motherhood: Delighting in our Children

Do we live out God?s goodness and grace by letting them see that, in
times of weakness or sorrow, we turn to the Lord for our help? Do they
know that God?s Word is of utmost importance to us? Are we spending
time in the Word, memorizing Scripture, and praying throughout our
day?

Many of yo know how I tend to struggle with being an angry mommy. Yeah ? I needed this chapter.

AND

I also struggle with managing my time. Things go great for awhile then the just ? well ? go ka-put. Some days I feel like a gerbil on a wheel ? trying so very hard but getting nothing done. Do you ever feel that way?

From Chapter 10? Time Management: Managing our Hearts to Use Time Wisely

But there is not just a ?one-size-fits-all? method for time management.
God has called us each to do a wide variety of tasks for Him. It is
important for each of us, as individuals, to explore the possibilities of
what it might look like to use our time effectively to further God?s
kingdom purposes ? today. Because, truly, isn?t that the true heart of
time management?

Ah ? the heart of time management. Deciphering the good which God has for us to do each day.? Again ? practicality pointing towards eternity.

I can?t wait to steal away for a few hours to really dive in to a few other chapters (this isn?t a book to just skim over ? there?s too much good stuff inside).? My heart needs this. My family needs this. My home needs this.

  • Health: Bringing God Glory by Caring for our Bodies
  • Marriage: Nurturing a Love that Lasts a Lifetime
  • Organizing: Reflecting our Orderly God by? Keeping an Orderly Home
  • and the one that just the title brings tears to my eyes ? A Mother?s Legacy: Storing Up Treasures in Heaven

Honestly, this is a fantastic ebook. It is worth your time. It is worth your money (and it?s not expensive!). Invest in your home. Invest in your family. Invest in your heart. Buy your copy today.

Striving for simplicity is how I am thriving at home.
