FULLERTON, Calif. ? On a historic night for professional soccer in Orange County, the Los Angeles Blues showed a lot of promise in a 1-0 home defeat to the Mexican U-20 national team on Saturday. In an even affair, Alfonso Tamay put the visitors up around the hour mark and El Tri successfully defended its lead against nine opposition players, following red cards to the Blues? Mike Lopez and Israel Sesay.
While Mexico had the better of the possession for the first half of the opening period, the Fullerton-based side created the first huge opportunity of the match in the 25th minute. Irving Garcia played a nice opening pass toward the left, where Lopez cut to his right foot and released a precise shot that seemed destined for the inside of the near post, only to be stopped in spectacular fashion by fully extended goalkeeper Richard Sanchez.
Mexico nearly scored at the other end moments from the halftime whistle, Raul Lopez?s long-range blast whistling just over the crossbar. In the end it was an all around successful night at Fullerton?s Titan Stadium, with the Mexican side providing its raucous fans with a win and the Blues showing plenty of promise for a team that is still a week away from the official opening of its preseason.

Police investigate Best Buy TV porn

Police are now investigating how porn infiltrated one Best Buy store's Wi-Fi network, forcing the store to issue an apology to shocked customers.
The last thing a family browsing in the TV section at its local Best Buy in Greenville, S.C., expected to see is 55-inches of pornographic images, but that's what happened earlier this week to a woman in the store shopping with her son and grandchildren. She filed a complaint with the Greenville Police Department.
And that's not the only time it happened, as the store's manager admitted it had happened the night before the woman reported her incident. An image was apparently uploaded through the Wi-Fi network and uploaded to a smart TV.
NBC affiliate WECT reported on the apology issued by the chain's corporate office:
"Two individuals accessed our store's wireless signal to broadcast inappropriate content on a smart television display. In both cases, we worked immediately to disable the inappropriate content. We greatly apologize for this unfortunate incident and we are working to ensure that it does not happen again."
UPDATE (9:37 a.m.) -- We reached out to the Greenville Police Department, and Officer Alia Urps told us that they're going through footage from in-store cameras to see who was there those evenings. Police suspect someone using a tablet or other mobile device streamed the image to the smart TV. But because there is no hard drive on the TV, it didn't ?save the offending material.
Officer Urps said that even if they were to find the culprit, "It would be difficult to prove the person sent that particular image." The charge would be disseminating obscene material.
"This is something we?ve not seen before," Urps said. "It'll be good for us to figure out what to do with this one. It'll serve as a foundation for further incidents."

Federal authorities subpoena info from Penn State
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ? A federal subpoena related to the child sex abuse scandal involving a former Penn State assistant football coach, sent to the university earlier this month, sought records of payments made by trustees to the school, or to third parties on the school's behalf, a university spokeswoman said Friday.
Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers also disclosed that the Harrisburg-based U.S. attorney's office requested "reporting requirements of employers and staff relating to allegations of misconduct by staff or individuals associated with the university."
The new details were released a day after the Feb. 2 subpoena was first confirmed by the university. Powers said Penn State is fully cooperating with the request.
Heidi Havens, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Peter J. Smith, declined to comment Friday on the subpoena.
Powers also revealed Friday that the request for "certain information" goes back to 1998, the year university police investigated a mother's complaint that Sandusky, then the football team's defensive coordinator, had showered with her 11-year-old son in a school locker room.
Sandusky, 68, is confined to his State College home as he awaits trial on 52 sex abuse charges. He denies the allegations.
Along with Sandusky and the university, the subpoena also sought information about athletic director Tim Curley, retired vice president Gary Schultz and former president Graham Spanier.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the subpoena sought hard drives from computers used by the four men, citing Powers, who did not return a follow-up call from The Associated Press.
Spanier has not been charged with any crime.
Curley and Schultz await trial in Harrisburg on charges that they lied to a grand jury investigating Sandusky and failed to properly report suspected child abuse after a football team assistant told them of a 2002 incident involving Sandusky and a boy inside the team's showers. Curley and Schultz are free on bail. They are seeking dismissal of the charges.
Powers said the subpoena asked for "reporting requirements of employers and staff relating to allegations of misconduct by staff or individuals associated with the university."

Esperanto now on Google Translate

The addition was announced in a blog post entitled, "Tutmonda helplingvo por ?iuj homoj" (which Google Translate interprets as "International auxiliary language for all people").
It seems like the language -- which has elements of Indo-European languages but has also been adopted by speakers in the Americas, China and Japan -- is a good fit for Google Translate:
"The Google Translate team was actually surprised about the high quality of machine translation for Esperanto. As we know from many experiments, more training data (which in our case means more existing translations) tends to yield better translations. For Esperanto, the number of existing translations is comparatively small. German or Spanish, for example, have more than 100 times the data; other languages on which we focus our research efforts have similar amounts of data as Esperanto but don?t achieve comparable quality yet. Esperanto was constructed such that it is easy to learn for humans, and this seems to help automatic translation as well."
Esperanto is the brainchild of?Ludwig Lazarus Zamenhof, who introduced the language to the world in 1887 under the pseudonym "Doktoro Esperanto" (Doctor Hopeful).?
Estimates for modern speakers of Esperanto range wildly from 10,000 to two million. It is even the language used exclusively for instruction at the International Academy of Sciences in the republic of San Marino, on the Italian peninsula. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
WASHINGTON The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) Editorial Board has selected six papers published by PNAS in 2011 to receive the Cozzarelli Prize, an award that recognizes outstanding contributions to the scientific disciplines represented by the National Academy of Sciences. Papers selected were chosen from more than 3,500 research articles that appeared in the journal last year and represent the six broadly defined classes under which the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is organized.
The annual award acknowledges papers that reflect scientific excellence and originality. The award was established in 2005 and named in 2007 to honor late PNAS Editor-in-Chief Nicholas R. Cozzarelli. The 2011 awards will be presented at the PNAS Editorial Board meeting, and awardees will be recognized at an awards ceremony during the NAS Annual Meeting on April 29, 2012, in Washington, D.C.

Hanbuki the Destroyer
I first came up with Hanbuki the Destroyer after watching the last episode of Baki the Grappler, where Yujiro Hanma, the main antagonist, is in his prime. Due to the demon face on his back, Yujiro is invulnerable to everything and has never been defeated in a fight by anyone, though his son Baki can defeat him. Most of them discover their abilities in childhood, and they have a choice to make. Will they use their powers to help mankind? Or destroy it?
England, 9th century. The feudal system is booming, and the land is divided into kingdoms. The poor are dirty and mistreated, and the rich are vain and gluttonous. A noble king with chivalrous knights is hard to find, and justice for criminals is sorely lacking. But there is a being who exists that will not be subjugated. He will not be controlled. He will not sit back and watch as the rich shower themselves in gold and the suffering of their people. He will act.
It started small. A baron's castle was destroyed overnight. An army in the thousands was killed in one minute. People began to whisper that evil was afoot. Kings began to panic, feeling the heat as this entity drew closer. Some did not believe the tales that a single man had done all of this, as the rumor mill speculated. After all, what man could tear down a castle with his bare hands? What man could destroy an army without sustaining a single scratch? None, but Hanbuki the Destroyer.
The roleplay revolves around a very small cast with only five super-powered beings and three non-super-powered beings. As such, I am delegating it to a one-on-one. I'm mostly looking for a girl, because I need the girl roles to be played with more authenticity than I can RP at this point, but I'll take a guy too if I feel he's right for the role. Treasury Bonds Yield Less Than Dividend Stocks - Investing Path
These are historic times when it comes to the economy and the stock market.? Of course, you could probably say that about almost any time in history for some reason or other.? But in this case, we are talking about how freakishly low interest rates have become.? Not only are the interest rates on savings accounts below 0.3%, but even one year CDs are well below 1% on average.? Enter treasury bonds, which usually offer a significantly better return than savings rates.? However, in this economy, interest rates have been pushed so low that even the ten year treasuries only yield 2%!? In other words, if you buy a ten year treasury bond and hold it to maturity, you will only earn 2% per year.? Let?s take a look at the treasury yield curve (below).

Notice on the treasury yield curve that even the 30 year bonds only yield 3%.? This is amazing considering the state of the economy.? What?s even more ludicrous is that if you buy treasuries now, you?ll actually be losing real money every month.? That?s because the highest treasuries yield 3%, but current inflation rates are closer to 3.5%.? That means that the government is actually making money on treasuries, as the cost to pay back the debt will be lower because of the decreased purchasing power that inflation brings.
Now, let?s look at the historical yield of dividends, as represented by the S&P 500.

Note that the yield on the Dow Jones Industrial Average is higher than the S&P 500, but for some reason that data is not available, or at least very hard to find.? Notice that even though the dividend yield has declined over the past 20 years, it is currently at about 2 percent.? The average dividend yield of the Dow is currently 2.9%.? So what does this tell us?
For the first time in over 60 years dividend yields are higher than treasury yields!? That makes treasuries and many other bonds a pretty bad investment.? And if you?re willing to take on more risk, you?re much better off investing in dividend stocks.? Not only do dividend stocks pay about the same or more in yield now, but they are also a good hedge for inflation, and have a chance for stock price appreciation.
Another factor to consider if you are deciding between investing in bonds and stocks, is what will happen next.? While the global economy can never be predicted, there?s at least a good chance that it rises and that stocks do well for years to come.? The longer your term, the more certain your conviction can be.? However, when it comes to?bonds, interest rates have no where to go but up.? And when interest rates go up, bond prices go down.? That means that there is not really any upside into investing in treasuries or most other high quality bonds at the moment.
So, the takeaway from all of this.? Besides these are historic times and this is something interesting to think about, you may want to think twice about investing in bonds these days.

Staff at The Sun tabloid arrested in bribe inquiry (AP)
LONDON ? Britain's biggest-selling tabloid newspaper was fighting to contain the damage after five of its employees were arrested Saturday in an inquiry into the alleged payment of bribes to police and other officials, detectives and the newspaper's parent company said.
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. said the five employees from The Sun tabloid had been detained and that police had searched their homes and the group's London offices, potentially deepening the scandal over British tabloid wrongdoing.
A 39-year-old female employee at Britain's defense ministry, a 36-year-old male member of the armed forces and a 39-year-old serving police officer with Surrey Police, were also arrested, police said.
The development follows the arrest of four current and former journalists at the newspaper last month in connection with the same bribery inquiry.
Sun editor Dominic Mohan expressed his alarm at Saturday's arrests, but insisted the six-day-a-week newspaper would continue its work.
"I'm as shocked as anyone by today's arrests, but am determined to lead The Sun through these difficult times," Mohan said in a statement. "I have a brilliant staff and we have a duty to serve our readers and will continue to do that. Our focus is on putting out Monday's newspaper."
Two people familiar with the matter, both of whom requested anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the issue, said Murdoch was scheduled to head to London in the near future to spend time with the company's journalists. One person explained that the trip had been planned for some time and wasn't in reaction to the latest arrests.
News Corp. declined to comment on Murdoch's travel plans, or on whether he planned to address staff at The Sun.
Murdoch closed down the 168-year-old News of The World tabloid in July amid public anger when the extent of its phone hacking of celebrities, public figures and crime victims was exposed.
A former News of the World executive, who also requested anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigations, said The Sun's current deputy editor Geoff Webster, picture editor John Edwards and chief reporter John Kay were among those arrested Saturday. Sky News and other British media reported that chief foreign correspondent Nick Parker and reporter John Sturgis were also being questioned. News Corp. would not publicly confirm the identities of those detained.
The executive ? who said he was in touch with the Sun's senior staff ? claimed that management there were "fighting to halt morale collapse" at the tabloid, describing Mohan as "somewhat shellshocked" by the arrests.
A total of 21 people have now been arrested in the bribery probe ? including three police officers ? though none has yet been charged. They include Rebekah Brooks, former chief executive of Murdoch's News International; ex-News of the World editor Andy Coulson ? who is also Prime Minister David Cameron's former communications chief; and journalists from both the News of the World and The Sun.
Police said the inquiry ? which is running in parallel to investigations into phone hacking and alleged email hacking ? had also now widened its remit. It was initially focused on whether reporters had illegally paid police officers for information, but will now examine whether other public officials were also targeted.
In a statement, police confirmed the latest arrests came after information was provided to detectives by the management standards committee of Murdoch's News Corp., set up to investigate alleged malpractice.
News Corp. also confirmed that it had supplied the police with information, but insisted it would "continue to ensure that all appropriate steps are taken to protect legitimate journalistic privilege and sources, private or personal information and legal privilege."
"News Corporation maintains its total support to the ongoing work of the management standards committee and is committed to making certain that legitimate journalism is vigorously pursued in both the public interest and in full compliance with the law," it said.
Britain's National Union of Journalists claimed some News International staff felt let down by managers over their cooperation with the police. "Journalists are reeling at seeing five more of their colleagues thrown to the wolves in what many sense to be a witch-hunt. They are furious at what they see as a monumental betrayal on the part of News International," the union's general secretary Michelle Stanistreet said.
"Once again Rupert Murdoch is trying to pin the blame on individual journalists hoping that a few scalps will salvage his corporate reputation," she said.
All eight people arrested Saturday are being questioned by police in London and at stations in the southern England counties of Kent, Essex, Surrey and Wiltshire.
Police said later Saturday that they had completed searches at the offices of News International, a division of News Corp., in east London.
The five journalists from The Sun ? aged between 45 and 68 ? are being quizzed on suspicion of offenses of corruption and aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office. Police said the three public servants were being questioned on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and corruption offenses.
Deborah Glass, deputy chair of the Independent Police Complaints Commission, said Britain's policing watchdog was cooperating over the inquiry. "Today's arrests are further evidence of the strenuous efforts being undertaken to identify police officers who may have taken corrupt payments," she said.
Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Kirkby, of Surrey Police, confirmed that one of his force's officers was being questioned. "The force takes matters of this nature extremely seriously and we will not hesitate to respond robustly to allegations where there is evidence to support them," he said.
Surrey Police was responsible for the investigation into missing 13-year-old girl Milly Dowler, who was later found murdered. A wave of public revulsion over the disclosure that reporters had intercepted her voicemails in 2002 led Murdoch to close down the News of The World.
Britain's ministry of defense declined to comment on the arrest of the defense official.
